Abstract.

The present study examined the impact of continuous improvement initiatives on the optimization of human resource management practices. A survey methodology was used and responses were received from 217 respondents who met the selection criteria established for the study. Structural equation modeling was performed to examine the hypothesized relationships. The analysis supported the hypotheses that continuous improvement initiatives positively influence the optimization of human resource management practices such as performance management, work-related learning, employee engagement, and teamwork. Continuous improvement initiatives aligned with firms' strategic direction help develop and implement more focused human resource management practices. Failure to optimize human resource management practices in line with continuous improvement initiatives has been identified as a key barrier to the effective use of human resources. Although continuous improvement initiatives require changes in HRM practices, little empirical attention has thus far been given to understanding the implications of continuous improvement initiatives for HRM practices. Overall, the findings suggest that continuous improvement initiatives lead to improved human resource management practices in organizations; there is a need to optimize these practices from a strategic perspective while implementing continuous improvement initiatives to develop sustainable human resource management practices in organizations.
