Abstract.

The article considers theoretical aspects of digitalization, as well as formal and informal institutional factors in the context of their impact on business activity. The relevance of the study is due to the rapid pace of development and implementation of digital technologies both worldwide and in Russia. Digitalization in this study refers to the introduction of digital technologies in various spheres of life, including business. The foundations for the study of digitalization processes were laid by foreign and domestic scientists, who found that the widespread use of high technology contributes to the development of production factors and optimization of production processes. The vector of the country's digital development is set by business entities. In the course of the study it was found that business takes an active part in the processes of digitalization of the region, the activities of which depend on the quality of the business environment. It is understood as a set of factors affecting the functioning of business entities. The business environment has an institutional character, so it is assessed by the indicators of the activity of formal and informal institutions. Formal institutions include legal acts, laws and formalized rules and norms that regulate business processes. Informal institutions include norms of cultural, ethnic, social type, which are not normatively fixed. It is revealed that the processes of digitalization determine the development of the institutional environment in this sphere.
