Abstract.
This article examines the economic condition of the town of Syzran, located in the Middle Volga region for the period of the 19th century. The reasons for the rapid commercial and industrial growth of the town are considered, including the advantageous position of the city on waterways and transport routes, the development of railway communications, in order to identify steps to solve an important problem of the XXI century in the modern Russian Federation - the centralization of the economy. According to The Russian State Historical Archive, the economic indicators of the contribution of Syzran uyezd in comparison with other uyezds to the economic growth of Simbirsk province are given. The state of trade in the city is considered in detail, and the fairs of the 19th century are described, which at that time served as an important platform not only for commodity and money exchange, but also for the development of social institutions. The data on the number of merchants and burghers living in Syzran in 1858, who were the engine of the town's trade, are given. The article also indicates the annual turnover of Syzran county by field of activity at the beginning of the 20th century, separately analyzes the effectiveness of asphalt plants, and characterizes the industry of Syzran County, which assumed a key role in the development of the city in the second half of the 19th century, with the onset of the industrial revolution.
